COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local businesses in downtown Oceanside can join MainStreet Oceanside to get help through an online directory, social media posts, newsletters, workshops + mixers that build community connections. Membership costs $50 a year and offers exclusive discounts and event stipends to help businesses grow.  The Vista Press
  • Sand N' Straw Community Farm invites residents to join its year-round CSA and visit its farm stand (Wed 1-4pm, Sat 8-1pm) for fresh produce and Heritage baked goods. The six-acre site also hosts farm tours, gardening workshops, home garden consulting and summer kids’ programs to promote local, sustainable living.  The Vista Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local graphic designer Axel Arevalo won the poster contest for the 33rd San Diego Latino Film Festival, with his design set to be shown from March 18 to 22 in San Diego (his second contest entry).  CBS8
  • The North County African American Women’s Association, Oceanside Public Library and the Museum will host Beyond The Bus on Feb. 21 at the Oceanside Museum of Art; the free event features a play reading (with Ted Lange narrating) and a discussion led by Dr. India Pierce, with tickets required.  The Vista Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wild Wonders in Bonsall celebrates its 35th anniversary, marking its growth from a small wildlife program in Vista to a facility with over 100 animal ambassadors. The center will share historic snippets and offer special promotions throughout the year to boost local wildlife education + conservation.  The Vista Press
  • Army and Navy Academy’s robotics team went undefeated at the San Diego Regional Competition and won three top awards — they qualify for the National VEX V5 Robotics Competition in St. Louis in April.  The Vista Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fire departments from Vista, San Marcos, Oceanside, Camp Pendleton, and North County Fire conducted live fire training drills at the former New Community Church in Vista recently. More than 300 fire personnel practiced fire control, rescue, and team coordination in 8 planned drills.  The Vista Press
