- ➤ The Mitchell Thorp Foundation will host its 17th Annual Warrior Spirit 5K Run/Walk & Family Festival on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Poinsettia Park in Carlsbad to support families of children facing serious illnesses, inviting community members to run, walk, or attend. The Vista Press
- ➤ A 98-year-old World War II veteran accepted a surprise honor on the USS Midway yesterday — he received the Japan Occupation Medal. The veteran, who had long declined awards, was joined by family and Sharp Healthcare staff at the ceremony. CBS8

- ➤ Dead Moose, a new dark comedy musical by Tyler Tafolla, debuts at Oceanside’s Sunshine Brooks Theater with praise for its sharp humor and heartfelt themes. It runs today at 8 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. (students get $15 tickets with ID) and Sunday at 3 p.m. The Vista Press
- ➤ Oceanside Public Library presents Oceanside, Near + Far, a free cultural series with a Taiko drumming workshop on Friday, Feb. 6 at Civic Center Library Community Room, a Polynesian lei-making workshop on Monday, Feb. 23, a Danza Azteca workshop on Monday, Mar. 2, and a celebration on Saturday, Mar. 14. - ➤ Electric bills may confuse residents and landlords as SDG&E restructured delivery fees with a fixed monthly charge and time-of-use pricing that raised fees by about $4 on Jan. 1, and further increases are set for April due to wildfire costs (help tools are available from utilities and community power providers). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Clean Energy Alliance board approved rate relief measures on Jan. 29 to offset rising PCIA charges and keep customer bills competitive with SDG&E. The credits, including $0.03871 per kWh for residences and a 6.9% cut for agriculture, will take effect Feb. 1 and run through Dec. 31 (covering local areas). The Vista Press
