  • Three veterans from the Marine Corps, Army, and Navy recalled their service in Vietnam, describing how they earned Purple Hearts and endured injuries and protests upon returning home + they stressed that despite the hardships, their good memories outweighed the bad.  CBS8
  • KOCT is hosting its annual luncheon fundraiser this Thursday at Texas Roadhouse from 12:00pm to 1:30pm to support public access in Oceanside. The $55 ticket includes a meal option and auction items such as dinner with the Oceanside Fire Department & additional local experiences.  The Vista Press
  • Local CBS 8 is partnering with Navy Federal Credit Union and Support The Enlisted Project to collect personal care items for more than 600 military families in San Diego County from April 28 to May 31. Donated items will be distributed at S.T.E.P. headquarters on June 7 — following last year's drive that collected over 7,000 items.  CBS8

  • Carlsbad’s Pizza Port Brewing Company, San Marcos’ Tarantula Hill Brewing Co. and Vista’s Pure Project won Gold Medals last Friday at the 2025 Brewers Cup of California, a contest that received 1,360 entries from 203 breweries—Oceanside’s BLACK PLAGUE Brewing earned a Silver Medal and Pizza Port’s Carlsbad Village brewpub took a Bronze Medal.  The Vista Press

  • Kynsi, a black lab and golden retriever mix trained by inmates, now works in the special education classroom at Nichols Leadership Academy in Oceanside — her calm presence helps students focus and complete tasks. Rosie O'Donnell and Guide Dogs of America released the documentary 'Unleashing Hope. The Power of Service Dogs for Children with Autism' to highlight her impact.  CBS8

  • Today, Oceanside Housing and Neighborhood Services and nonprofit Dreams for Change will host the opening ceremony for the Safe Parking Program from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 1919 Apple St to support residents facing vehicular homelessness — city officials and Dreams for Change staff will offer interview opportunities.  The Vista Press
  • Supervisor Jim Desmond says spent nuclear fuel from the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant is stored in 120 large canisters on a fault line 30 yards from the ocean. He warns there is no long-term plan for the waste—calling on Congress to relocate it to a federally approved facility.  The Vista Press
