CRIME NEWS

  • A Carlsbad man named Alexander Paffendorf received a three-year gun violence restraining order today after he allegedly discussed using explosives and a gun to commit a mass shooting with a teenage girl linked to a Wisconsin school attack & the judge said his detailed discussion on weaponry made his behavior too risky for gun ownership.  The Coast News
  • Authorities are seeking help to locate 14 year old Andrew Hernandez who was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Monday at 3810 Stanford Drive in Oceanside—he is visually impaired, considered at risk and was wearing a black jacket, long black shorts, a black baseball cap and no shoes.  The Coast News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 25, several North County educators were honored as district teachers of the year at an event held by the San Diego County Office of Education. They now will compete for county Teacher of the Year honors with winners expected by June 15.  The Coast News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • San Diego County officials launched today an online dashboard that gathers water quality, air pollution and health data to help residents track the sewage crisis affecting our beaches. The tool shows updates on beach water safety, sewage odors and spills while future versions will add more health data — as county leaders push for long-term fixes with US and Mexican officials.  CBS8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oceanside City Council approved a $19,500 increase to City Manager Jonathan Borrego’s deferred compensation on April 23, which raised his benefits from $1,200 to $20,800 effective April 27—this move reflects his strong leadership since his interim appointment in March 2022.  The Coast News
