- ➤ MainStreet Oceanside is asking for about 100 volunteers for its Independence Parade on June 28th—volunteers will serve in roles like street marshal, route marshal and work with flags and programs, so interested locals should contact Events and Volunteer Coordinator Sharon at 760 754 4512. - ➤ A semi-truck crashed into a Starbucks early Wednesday at about 4:44 a.m. near 801 N. Coast Highway, injuring the driver and a store employee and prompting hazardous materials checks + extended road closures as crews worked to secure the area. The Coast News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Carlsbad native Gavin Jaramillo will debut his first film 'Armada Dr' at 7 p.m. on June 26 at La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas—he shot the film entirely locally and it tells the story of a young man facing isolation and challenges, while Jaramillo, who funded the project with personal savings and local help, is planning a new film about a mother-daughter relationship. - ➤ The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library partnered with First Friday Art Walk to launch the Jane & Evie's Used Books Author Series at 323 North Coast Highway, where local authors will read and sign books with light refreshments on the outdoor patio. The series will take place on (June 6 with Jolie Tunnell, July 11 with B.L. Blanchard and August 1 with Courtney Deane) from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with books available for purchase. The Vista Press

- ➤ A middle school band teacher in Oceanside was surprised with $5,000 in music supplies during Teacher Appreciation Week by the San Diego Honda Dealers. - ➤ Students with special needs from St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center are learning life skills at XO Ranch in Descanso by working with animals like Nigerian dwarf goats Taca and Foofoo and doing ranch chores; the 16-week program, now five weeks in, will soon let them care for horses to build leadership and job skills.
