- ➤ Operation HOPE Illuminated Gala will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 5:00 PM at The Hidden Barn, 762 Taylor St, Vista — the event will feature inspiring speakers, live performances, and a gourmet dinner by Chef Ty to raise funds for families and single women overcoming homelessness. - ➤ Downtown Oceanside held a few events earlier this week and will host many community activities over the next two weeks—featuring the Oceanside Independence Parade on June 28 with military bands, Ambassador training on May 21, Operation Appreciation on May 17, a film series on May 18, a talent show, a pool party on May 24, and indoor football games on May 25 and 30 that bring neighbors together. - ➤ Today, Coastal Academy held its 'Wave of the Future' ceremony at 1310 Union Plaza Court to open its new high school campus in a renovated county office complex—now serving 775 students with enrollment expected to reach 900 by 2026—as Supervisor Jim Desmond announced a $220,000 grant and plans to build new sports facilities. - ➤ Oceanside was named a Blue City by a nonprofit called Project O—an organization that reviews cities' efforts to protect the ocean. The city earned 430 out of 500 points by building new facilities for clean water, food recovery and coastal care, joining fourteen other coastal cities in the highest Ocean Hero Tier. The Coast News

- ➤ Oceanside City Council approved a downsized 199-unit affordable Olive Park Apartments project on May 7 after rejecting neighbor appeals over safety and access concerns near the College Boulevard Sprinter Station. The development will include shared amenities such as parking and a community garden — and will offer units with one, two and three bedrooms for households earning up to 80% of the area median income while preserving most of the open space.
