On Thursday, May 22, Pope Leo XIV named Bishop Michael Pham to lead the San Diego diocese after Cardinal Robert McElroy became archbishop of Washington D.C.
The 58-year-old Pham, born in Da Nang, Vietnam, served as an auxiliary bishop who ran church programs and will now oversee a diocese with about 1.3 million Catholics & 3.5 million people in total.
