- ➤ Downtown Oceanside hosts a robust lineup of events this month with the annual Independence Parade set to begin on June 28 at 10 a.m. from North Coast Highway and Wisconsin Avenue and the First Friday Art Walk happening today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with an after dark concert from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.—other events include a beach cleanup, a home market on June 7 in South Oceanside, a family-friendly Pride festival on June 7, a Filipino Cultural Celebration on June 14, a Coastal Business Expo on June 18, and ongoing programs like the Ambassador Program and SDG&E Power Saver Rewards. - ➤ The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s 15th annual Summer Food Drive started on June 4 and will run until August 5 to help local families facing food insecurity. - ➤ The toxic algae bloom that sickened marine life is now clear from local waters while SeaWorld rescued 69 sea lions, 51 pelicans, and 6 dolphins from domoic acid poisoning between February and now. One pelican remains in treatment and will be released soon — other rescued animals have already returned home despite the hundreds that were lost. CBS8

- ➤ The San Diego County Water Authority and Metropolitan Water District settled a 15-year legal dispute that ended long-standing litigation over water rates and exchange agreements. Under the new deal, the Water Authority will pay a fixed rate of $671 per acre-foot starting in 2026 — a rate that adjusts annually for inflation and lets it offer water to other Metropolitan agencies. - ➤ A University of California San Diego study found almost all freshwater fish in Southern California were exposed to trematodes from invasive snails that can infect people who eat raw or undercooked fish.
