- ➤ An Oceanside man, Osvaldo Sixtos Lopez, 36, was arrested on June 20 for allegedly killing his friend Malietoa Rasmussen, 38, who was shot fatally on June 7 in a canyon along Interstate 5—he pleaded not guilty in Vista Superior Court and remains in custody without bail. The Coast News

- ➤ Aryana Mahasseni of Carlsbad High School won first place in the inaugural Teen Writing Contest where North County students wrote essays on spending $10 million to improve their communities. - ➤ The CA Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Sweetwater Care, an Encinitas nursing home provider, alleging that its 19 facilities under-staffed and neglected patients by failing to meet minimum care hours. The suit seeks a permanent injunction, civil penalties and restitution for over 25,000 alleged violations from 2020 to 2024 (including missed 3.5-hour care requirements) while noting that at least 2.4 hours from CNAs were required (a key compliance measure).
