- ➤ On June 23, the Oceanside Planning Commission recommended a major redevelopment plan for the Transit Center at 235 S. Tremont Street that will add over 500 apartments, a boutique hotel and more than $100 million in transit improvements; the plan now heads to the City Council and California Coastal Commission for final approval—steps that will reshape the center for commuters and visitors. - ➤ Camp Pendleton Marines, about 160 to 170 in number, are reinforcing the border barrier with concertina wire at Campo U.S. Customs and Border Protection station near the Tecate border—Gov. Newsom’s office said the deployment is mission creep that risks diverting Border Patrol agents and endangering law enforcement and the community. Local residents welcome the extra security and CBP noted that May illegal crossings in the southwest corridor have declined from last year. CBS8
