  • Henry Ocampo, an Oceanside father, is revitalizing the Mesa Margarita neighborhood with a lowrider bike project that lets neighbors rent custom bikes to support local programs—this effort aims to overcome a troubled past. He built personalized bikes for his family and partnered with a local non-profit to share his passion with the community.  CBS8
  • TERI Campus of Life named Jamie Cali as its new Chief Development Officer to lead its capital campaign and build long-term donor relationships. ECONOMY NEWS

  • On July 1, gas prices increased in California as new policies took effect—fuel now costs more due to a 1.6 cent per gallon tax boost and new low-carbon fuel standards. Some state officials said prices would rise by about 5 to 8 cents, while drivers expressed concern about further increases.  CBS8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supervisor Jim Desmond said his bill to expand emergency housing for homeless veterans passed unanimously at this week’s meeting. He also voted no on extra studies for Tijuana sewage—he passed a balanced budget that funds fire services, affordable housing, mental health care and road repairs in North County.  The Vista Press
  • The City of Oceanside will dedicate a segment of the San Luis Rey River Trail from Pacific Street to Benet Road in memory of Jensen Taylor Hughes, a local resident who lost her life in a cycling accident — memorial markers have been placed and a dedication ceremony is set for 3:30 p.m. on July 18 — to honor her lasting legacy.  The Vista Press
  • Starting July 1, bars and nightclubs must provide drink lids—an effort to help prevent drink spiking—and post signs that lids and test kits are available.  CBS8
