Oceanside police arrested 30-year-old Esteban Rivas on July 6 after he allegedly attacked his brother with a samurai sword at 6:35 a.m. on the 800 block of Arthur Avenue—officers report the victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital while Rivas is held without bail with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.

City staff is reviewing an application from AMG Land Development to build a 100-unit affordable housing project at the corner of Mission Avenue and Roymar Road.

If approved at a future City Council meeting, the five-story building will replace the Chance at Life Thrift Store and Rising Star Academy Childcare Center and request density bonus concessions—such as reduced parking and open space requirements.
