- ➤ The Stuff the Bus drive will run until July 31 — raising funds to provide backpacks and school supplies to over 23,000 San Diego County students experiencing homelessness. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rincon Homes has proposed building 83 single-family homes on a 10-acre site near Guajome Lake and environmental advocates say the project risks harming wildlife corridors and nesting areas—plans include a new recreation area, mitigation measures, and upgraded fire zones ahead of an Aug. 11 Planning Commission hearing. - ➤ Raider, a one-year-old rescue Labrador mix from a Riverside County shelter, is training to serve as a morale dog aboard the USS Makin Island later this summer. He is learning booties and eye protection — his training is managed by five handlers to boost comfort for nearly 1,000 sailors. CBS8
- ➤ In June, the San Diego County Water Authority and the Metropolitan Water District ended a 15-year legal dispute over water rates—this new deal will keep water bills low and supply steady for residents. Board Chair Nick Serrano said the settlement lets them use past investments to bring more stability to rates. CBS8
