Community-led Fire Safe Councils in North County received $276,000 in Project SAFE grants last month to help residents reduce fire risk.
They are using the funds to remove flammable vegetation and replace wooden fences with metal fencing in high-risk areas like San Elijo Hills and Fallbrook.

County Public Health officials said a bat that landed on a table at Yellow Deli in Vista on July 19 tested positive for rabies and advised anyone who touched it to call their doctor immediately (rabies treatment is available).
