Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 26th of July.
Good morning, Oceanside.
🏛️ Government
Today, California’s Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced the new Sustainable Insurance Strategy — a plan that lets insurers use a catastrophe model to set wildfire risk rates and must extend policies to high-risk areas, which may lead to higher short-term premiums.
Consumer advocates worry the change will raise costs — while officials hope it fills coverage gaps and stabilizes the market long term.
🏥 Health
Registered dietitian Mia Syn shares healthy snack tips to help Oceanside families stay nourished as back-to-school routines approach.
Her recommended picks include a plant-based nutrition mix, protein bars, pure fruit snacks, and an ice cream cake for a fun treat — all available at local stores.
On World IVF Day, Shannon Taylor recounted her long battle with infertility that led her to build a family of five, including San Diego County’s first child conceived from a frozen egg.
Her early IVF work helped advance fertility science—improving treatments and research—and starting in January, most insurance plans will cover IVF to remove financial barriers.
