- ➤ The Soroptimist International of Vista and North County Inland was honored on July 21 with a proclamation from County Supervisor Jim Desmond’s office that recognized its 20 years fighting human trafficking—club members gathered at the Vista Courthouse. They will next meet on October 9 and hold the 20th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Walk on January 10—steps that continue their work against trafficking. The Vista Press

- ➤ Kyle Tortora, owner of Lotus Sculpture, has celebrated 25 years of importing handcrafted Hindu and Buddha statues to gardens in Oceanside and Vista. He travels to countries such as Thailand, India and Cambodia to choose rare pieces—one example being a 26-foot Kwan Yin statue that was sold for $70,000. CBS8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Law enforcement held a gun safety event at Encinitas City Hall on Saturday and collected 226 firearms from local residents; those turning in handguns, rifles, and shotguns received $100 while those with assault weapons got $200 — free gun cable locks were offered — and any guns tied to crime will be sent for further review with the rest set for destruction.
