GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new state bill—AB 495 or the Family Preparedness Act of 2025—will streamline temporary guardianship for children when parents are detained by federal immigration authorities. It passed the State Assembly and will be reviewed by the Senate Appropriations Committee next week for potential implementation next year. CBS8
- ➤ Oceanside City Council finalized a plan to allow up to four storefront cannabis dispensaries with strict rules—each must be at least 1,000 feet from schools. City staff said the application process will open in the fall and licenses are expected by spring with businesses operating between 2027 and 2028. The Coast News
- ➤ Oceanside City Council approved Interfaith Community Services to replace San Diego Rescue Mission at the Navigation Center starting in October while increasing bed capacity from 50 to 75. The nonprofit will operate the shelter until June 30, 2027—providing round-the-clock staffing and additional support for residents. The Coast News
