- ➤ Ivey Ranch Park Association was chosen as a featured muse for the Oceanside Plein Air Festival — the event runs from September 6 to 13 and around 20 artists will paint the park on September 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. as part of a collaboration with Oceanside Museum of Art. The Vista Press
- ➤ The Oceanside Historical Society will hold a private ribbon cutting on August 27 to honor benefactor Thomas Weese at 510 Civic Center Drive in the Cultural District. The new Weese History Center will open to the public on August 29 at 10 a.m. and offers over 3,000 square feet of exhibits on local history. The Vista Press

- ➤ Palomar College in San Marcos has seen a rise in fall enrollment with over 19,580 students — 25% new — signing up as the college uses a student-first scheduling program and fee waivers to support its students. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ ILACSD will rally over 5,000 volunteers to help clean more than 100 sites across San Diego County on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers of all ages will join efforts at beaches, inland canyons, and parks to prevent debris from polluting our waterways—continuing a decades-long cleanup effort. - ➤ San Diego County Vice Chair Monica Montgomery Steppe plans to end the use of pepper spray on juveniles in detention centers over the next two years and will suggest a new plan at Tuesday's meeting—she said officers need special de-escalation training to calm fights without using force. CBS8

- ➤ Dr. Brynn Taylor from Kaiser Permanente explains that staying hydrated in the heat requires drinking water based on body weight and activity level, recommending about four liters for men and three for women—she advises drinking water that is fifteen to twenty degrees cooler than the air.
