COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce honored local heroes from Oceanside and Camp Pendleton on mid-day Friday at the Seabird Ocean Resort and Spa Grand Ballroom by awarding first responders, educators, healthcare and military workers, and local businesses. Mayor Ester Sanchez and Chamber CEO Scott Ashton led the ceremony—while several sponsors supported the event.  The Vista Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum will host the Fall Antique Tractor Show on the third and fourth weekends of October. Visitors will see vintage engines, antique clocks and live demonstrations in blacksmithing and weaving—along with tractor driving and wagon rides.  The Vista Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California will end carpool lane access for solo electric vehicle drivers on October 1, but a 60-day grace period means drivers with a valid decal will not be ticketed until enforcement begins—impacting over 500,000 EV owners.  CBS8

HEALTH NEWS

  • September is Healthy Aging Month and adults 45 and up are urged to stay active and follow home safety steps—such as keeping stairs well-lit, tacking down rugs, and wearing non-slip shoes—to help reduce falls and stay independent. Dr. Schwarzwald from Signify Health said regular exercise and checking medications help support balance and strength as you age.  CBS8

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Padres will play their first playoff series in Chicago, and fans can join watch parties at Gallagher Square at Petco Park for Wednesday’s Game 2 and Thursday’s Game 3 if needed—tickets are $5 to support the Padres Foundation. The team also broke its franchise record with 3,437,201 fans this season.  CBS8
  • NFL teams played as Rancho Bernardo alum Matt Ariza punted 37 yard for the Chiefs in a 37—20 win and Otay Ranch alum Devin Lloyd added 8 tackles for the Jaguars over the 49ers. High school football saw Oceanside tie Mount Miguel 25—25 as local players A Barquinero and Neke Letuli posted key stats amid other regional contests.  The Vista Press
