- ➤ San Diego County has purchased a $38M former military Sikorsky S-70 Firehawk helicopter to boost wildfire fighting in partnership with Cal Fire and San Diego Gas & Electric. The aircraft will begin operations in spring and can drop 1,000 gallons of water and carry 12 firefighters — strengthening the county’s nighttime response. CBS8
- ➤ On Tuesday, San Diego County notified CalFresh recipients that if the federal shutdown continues past Oct. 23 they may not receive November benefits—October payments have already been deposited and local food banks are being advised to support those affected. CBS8
