If you ride the rails through North County, Monday, Nov. 9 is a milestone. It will be the first day trains cross the new concrete bridge over the Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad, bringing the Batiquitos Lagoon Double Track project to 75% completion.

The new bridge replaces the 1940s wooden trestle and will improve tidal flow in the lagoon. SANDAG and Caltrans' double-track project adds a second track from Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad to La Costa Avenue in Encinitas.
